There is a narrative that has followed so many of us quietly through life.
That we are lazy.
That we lack discipline.
That if we could just “get our act together,” everything would fall into place.
But what if that isn’t true?
What if what you are experiencing isn’t laziness at all…
but a nervous system that doesn’t feel safe?
Because when the body doesn’t feel safe, it doesn’t prioritise performance.
It prioritises protection.
Procrastination becomes protection.
Overthinking becomes protection.
Avoidance becomes protection.
And suddenly, the very behaviours you judge yourself for
are actually your system trying to take care of you.
This is where everything changes.
Because you cannot shame a nervous system into regulation.
You cannot mindset your way out of biology.
You have to work with it.
You have to begin by asking:
What does my system need right now to feel safe enough to move?
Sometimes it’s rest.
Sometimes it’s structure.
Sometimes it’s honesty.
But more often than not, it’s compassion.
In my work, we don’t start with performance.
We start with capacity.
Because when capacity expands, everything else follows.
And from there, we build.
Not from force.
But from safety, alignment, and truth.
